Self Binding Gravel and Path Toppings are unique products favoured by customers who like the natural effect of gravel but with a firmer finish. Self Binding Gravel is widely used around stately homes, heritage properties and woodland paths due to the relatively hard wearing properties the product benefits from. Typically Self Binding Gravels are graded from 10mm to dust. Fines are essential to ensure the product compacts. The product is ideal footpaths, bridleways, cyclepaths and golf courses.

The installation of Self Binding Gravel is the most important aspect of it's use. All Self Binding Gravels and Path Toppings should be laid on top of a firm sub-base consisting of a free draining, granular material such as compacted MOT Type 3 applied at a depth suitable for intended traffic. Self Binding Gravel should be laid to a compacted depth of no more than 50mm incorporating a camber or cross-fall to ensure water disperses quickly. Self Binding Gravel should be compacted in thin layers using a vibratory roller before a final pass is made with the vibration switched off. For the final pass water should be sprayed directly onto the drum of the roller ensuring water volume is sufficient enough to prevent fines from sticking to the drum. Water rolling is essential to ensure sufficient fines are present on the gravel surface to produce a smooth and well bonded finish. See Our Self Binding Gravel Laying Instructions
