How to measure?

Take a metric tape measure and measure the length, width and depth of the area to be filled. The length and width measurements should be recorded in metres and the depth in millimetres. Now take these figures and enter them into the quantity calculator to reveal the approximate quantity required for your job.

Remember:

1 metre is equivalent to 1000mm or 100cm

1 centimetre is equivalent to 10mm

Gabion Baskets Consists of:

High quality, Galfan, 3mm welded mesh Gabion Baskets suitable for low retaining walls, erosion control and landscaping features. The tough 3mm welded mesh design gives superior strength over standard woven wire Gabion Baskets which are prone to buckling and twisting when filled. Welded Mesh Gabion Baskets are faster to construct and much easier to handle than the old style woven wire baskets. Our Gabion Baskets are delivered in flat pack form and are very easy to construct using the tie wire supplied or for even quicker construction, 1m helicoil joiners can be purchased. The baskets have 75mm square mesh and are typically filled with rock between 100-275mm in size. The range of sizes ensure the stone locks together to give strength and also allows the face of the basket to constructed in a dry stonewall fashion for a more aesthetically pleasing look. See our Gabion Basket Installation Video. Mainland Aggregates Ltd offer a range of Gabion Stone/Fill to suit most projects. It is recommended that any structure built to retain over 1.0m in height be designed by a structural engineer as extra bracing, supports and heavier gauge mesh may be required. Mainland Aggregates are one of the UK's leading suppliers of gabion baskets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Gabion Baskets Used For?

Gabion baskets are commonly used for retaining walls, erosion control, riverbank protection, landscaping, and other civil engineering applications. They provide stability while allowing water to flow through, reducing erosion.

What Materials Are Used To Make Gabion Baskets?

Gabion Baskets are made from galvanised, welded, wire mesh (Galfan), ensuring maximum strength and longevity. These baskets are much stronger than traditional woven wire gabion baskets and can be used for heavier applications.

How Do I Fill Gabion Baskets?

They allow for water drainage, reduce hydrostatic pressure, and blend in well with the natural surroundings. They are also quick to construct and don't require a skilled craftsmen.
