Frequently Asked Questions

What is 2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS)?

2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) is a product made from crushed Granite, Basalt, Gritstone or Carboniferous Limestone (depending on source). The product is graded from 2-6mm to create a permeable aggregate

What Can 2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) Be Used For?

2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) is a suitable sub-base for permeable paving and gravel grid bedding layers

What does SuDS stand for?

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) are a set of practices and techniques designed to manage surface water runoff in urban areas in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. The goal of SUDS is to mimic natural drainage processes, reduce the impact of urban development on water quality, and mitigate flooding. These systems focus on slowing down, capturing, and utilising rainwater, rather than allowing it to rapidly runoff into conventional drainage systems.

How Do I Calculate The Quantity Of 2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) I Require?

2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) is generally laid at 50mm depth over a compacted sub-base of Type 3. This depth can vary depending on the manufacturer of the paving to be used. Heavier loadings will require a deeper sub-base and may need to be calculated by a structural engineer. Typically, one of our Bulk Bags will cover 10m2 at 50mm depth. For larger areas you may wish to use our quantity calculator located at the top right hand side of this page under the grey "How Much Will I Need" tab. Simply enter your measurements to reveal the required tonnage. Please be sure to enter the length and width figures in metres and the depth in millimetres to give the correct quantity.

How Do I Install 2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS)?

2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) should be spread with a shovel and compacted with a whacker plate or vibrating roller in layers. It is important the product is properly compacted to prevent settling later on. The depth of installation will depend on the paving manufacturers specification.

Is 2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) Free Draining?

2-6mm Clean Stone (SuDS) is free draining. It is graded to create voids between the stones which encourage the passage of water.
