How to measure?
Take a metric tape measure and measure the length, width and depth of the area to be filled. The length and width measurements should be recorded in metres and the depth in millimetres. Now take these figures and enter them into the quantity calculator to reveal the approximate quantity required for your job.

Flint Gabion Stone is incredibly durable and suited to Gabion installations requiring the strongest stone. What is Flint Gabion Stone?
Flint Gabion Stone is a 75-250mm graded Flint. The sizing of stone is approximate and describes the length of a single piece of stone across at least one axis. Therefore, a stone could be 250mm in width but 300mm in length and still be in spec. The distribution of sizes will be completely random. PLEASE CALL US IF UNSURE BEFORE ORDERING.
What Can Flint Gabion Stone Be Used For?
Flint Gabion Stone can be used for gabion baskets, gabion mattresses and general landscaping.
Is Flint Gabion Stone Washed?
Flint Gabion Stone is not washed. No gabion stone produced in the UK is washed due to its size. Therefore, the product is likely to be dirty on arrival with up to 10% fine material leftover. It is recommended the finished gabion wall be jet washed to remove any dirt/dust and to reveal the true colour of the stone. A period of heavy or prolonged rain will also achieve the same result.
How Do I Calculate The Quantity Of Flint Gabion Stone I Require?
Flint Gabion Stone weighs approximately 1.6 tonnes per cubic metre. Therefore, 1 bulk bag will fill 0.5-0.6m3 of a gabion basket. The amount of gabion stone used on a project will be determined by the skill of the installer. An experienced installer will use much more stone than the average DIYer as they will be able to pack the stones tighter in the baskets. For this reason, don’t be surprised to use more or less stone than initially calculated. How Do I Install Flint Gabion Stone?
Flint Gabion Stone should be hand laid to ensure the face of the gabion basket achieves that sought after dry stone wall finish. Machine fill is not recommended as this results in a very loosely filled basket which can compromise strength and is less aesthetically pleasing. Does Flint Gabion Stone Require Maintenance?
Once installed, Flint Gabion Stone should be relatively maintenance free. The product may benefit from an annual jet wash to remove any dust and grime that may have accumulated along with any weeds that might have taken root between the stones.
Is Flint Gabion Stone Fish Friendly?
Flint Gabion Stone is fish friendly. However, we recommend the product be thoroughly washed before immersing in water.
