Take a metric tape measure and measure the length, width and depth of the area to be filled. The length and width measurements should be recorded in metres and the depth in millimetres. Now take these figures and enter them into the quantity calculator to reveal the approximate quantity required for your job.
Remember:
1 metre is equivalent to 1000mm or 100cm
1 centimetre is equivalent to 10mm
As Raised Hoggin is a cost-effective, natural aggregate composed of clay, sand, and gravel, suitable for paths, cyclepaths, tracks and bridleways. The range of gravel sizes that make up Hoggin ensure it compacts more firmly than standard gravels. Hoggin is ideal for applications where are a more firmer surface than standard gravel loose gravel is required. Hoggin should be placed in thin layers and rolled using a vibrating roller to create a firm surface. We recommend 50-75mm depth for footpaths and borders. Hoggin must be laid on a suitable free draining compacted sub-base such as MOT Type 3 and it is essential that Hoggin is laid with a camber or crossfall to allow water to disperse. Poor drainage is the number one cause of surface failure. This product must not be laid when soaking wet or bone dry as compaction will be lost. See Hoggin Laying Instructions
IMPORTANT: This product is not a self binding gravel. For Self Binding Gravels and Path Toppinhgs see here

Hoggin should be trouble free provided it has been installed correctly! It may require periodic brushing to remove leaves but nothing more than that.
Although not essential an edging helps with compaction of Hoggin as it prevents lateral movement of the material and also gives you a level to work to if laying material with the screed method. Edgings are generally made from timber, concrete or block paviours. It is important that regular gaps are left in an edging to prevent water being contained within the path.
