50mm Clean Stone Consists of:

An aggregate composed of crushed Limestone, Granite or Basalt depending on source which is screened to remove fines. 50mm Clean Stone is mainly used a sub-base for equestrian riding arenas, roads, paths and as drainage fill for ditches and soak-aways. Its coarse nature makes it a very good all in one product which when compacted forms a hard wearing but well drained surface. This product is ideal for use as an equestrian riding arena sub-base as the absence of fines ensures drainage systems do not clog. Mainland Aggregates Ltd take pride in being one of the leading 50mm Clean Stone suppliers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 50mm Clean Stone?

50mm Clean Stone is a product made from crushed Granite, Basalt, Gritstone or Carboniferous Limestone (depending on source).

What Can 50mm Clean Stone Be Used For?

50mm Clean Stone is a suitable sub base for equestrian riding arenas, roads, paths, sports pitches and as a drainage medium for soak-aways and ditches.

Is 50mm Clean Stone Suitable For A Driveway Sub-Base?

50mm Clean Stone should not be used as a driveway sub base. The absence of fines will prevent the desired level of compaction being achieved. Please use either Type 1 or Type 3 for driveway sub bases.

How Do I Calculate The Quantity Of 50mm Clean Stone I Require?

50mm Clean Stone should be laid at 100-150mm depth when used as a sub base for equestrian arenas and roads. Heavier loadings will require a deeper sub-base and may need to be calculated by a structural engineer. Typically, one of our Bulk Bags will cover 5m2 at 100mm depth. For larger areas you may wish to use our quantity calculator located at the top right hand side of this page under the grey "How Much Will I Need" tab. Simply enter your measurements to reveal the required tonnage. Please be sure to enter the length and width figures in metres and the depth in millimetres to give the correct quantity.

How Do I Install 50mm Clean Stone?

50mm Clean Stone should be spread with a shovel or excavator and compacted with a whacker plate or vibrating roller in layers. It is important the product is properly compacted to prevent settling later on. The depth of installation will depend on the project but we generally recommend 150mm for riding arenas and roads.

Is 50mm Clean Stone Free Draining?

50mm Clean Stone is free draining. The high void ratio between the stones ensures water passes freely.
