Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Play Bark?

Play bark, also known as play bark chips or playground bark, is a type of safety surface material used in playgrounds and play areas. It is made from shredded or chipped bark from various tree species and is designed to provide a cushioned surface to help reduce the risk of injury from falls.

What Can Play Bark Be Used For?

Play Bark can be used for play areas where there is a risk of falling from height. When installed and maintained correctly, Play Bark is considered safe for children to play on. It meets safety standards for impact attenuation and is designed to reduce the risk of injuries from falls. However, it's essential to ensure that the Play Bark material used is certified to meet safety standards and is free from contaminants or harmful chemicals.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Play Bark?

Play Bark provides several benefits, including impact absorption to cushion falls, reducing the risk of injuries such as bruises and fractures. It also helps to create a natural-looking play surface, encourages imaginative play, and is generally considered safer than hard surfaces like concrete or asphalt.

How Do I Calculate The Quantity Of Play Bark I Require?

The recommended depth of Play Bark can vary depending on the height of the equipment and the type of play being conducted. In general, a minimum depth of 6 inches (15 centimeters) is recommended for play areas with equipment up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) in height. For higher equipment, a greater depth may be necessary to provide adequate impact absorption.

How Do I Install Play Bark?

Play Bark should be spread with a rake or shovel at 150mm-200mm depth.

Does Play Bark Require Maintenance?

Yes, Play Bark requires regular maintenance to ensure its effectiveness and safety. This may include raking or leveling the surface to redistribute the bark chips, removing debris and foreign objects, and replenishing the bark as needed to maintain the recommended depth.

How Long Does Play Bark Last?

The longevity of Play Bark depends on various factors such as climate, soil conditions, and how heavily it is used. In general, it can last for one to three years before needing to be replenished. In wet climates, Play Bark may decompose more quickly and require more frequent replenishment.
