Different types of gravel

Gravel is one of the most popular types of aggregates used for landscape projects for both residential areas and commercial spaces. It’s easy to use, versatile, affordable, low-maintenance and comes in a variety of sizes and colours. But the benefits don’t stop there. Gravel is also great for drainage as it allows water to drain quickly, preventing unwanted water accumulation that might lead to puddles and waterlogged planters.

Where does gravel come from?

There are two processes of forming gravel: the natural process of rock weathering caused by erosion in rivers and streams, and the manmade process in which gravel is produced in quarries by crushing limestone, basalt and limestone.

Also called pea gravel, naturally formed gravel is round in shape and features a smooth texture. Manmade gravel, also known as crushed stone gravel, features a rougher texture, angular edges and is available in irregular sizes.
