What is Sharp Sand?
Sharp sand is a gritty, coarse sand that has slightly larger grains than builder’s sand. This sand features angular grains, not rounded like beach sand grains. This versatile sand can be used for a variety of applications, from paving applications to concreting applications and even to loosen clay soil alongside compost. Can sharp sand be used for paving?
Yes, sharp sand can be used for paving applications, such as driveways, patios and paths. Sharp sand is a top choice for laying paving due to its low salt and silt content, which reduces the chance of paving slabs that lay on top of it, becoming damaged and eroded.
Can sharp sand be used for bricklaying?
Building sand is better suited for bricklaying. This type of sand features fine rounded particles and a clay content of 10% or higher. This created a smooth, easily worked product ideal for marking renders and mortars.
Is sharp sand good for clay soil?

How to get rid of sharp sand?
If you have a small amount of sharp sand left, you could scatter it finely over your grass and it will slowly make its way down. Alternatively, speak to your local council to find out where you can dispose of building materials and if that includes sharp sand.
